The Electoral Roll for the church of St. Paul's, Fazeley has been re-drafted so now is the time for people to re-enter their names to state they wish to stay on the roll.
Why has is it been re-drafted? The number of names on the Electoral Roll established the amount the church has to pay to the diocese as it's Parish Share. I.e. the monies which go forward from the parish, for running the clergy, the diocese and the Church of England. The more people on the Electoral Roll, the more we, as a parish must pay. Some names on the Roll were for people who have long since left the parish or who died some time ago!!
So why be on the Electoral Roll? Being on the Electoral Roll allows many things. To start with you can't get married in the church unless you are on the Roll. You can't sit on the Parochial Church Council and you can't vote at meetings or the AGM and have your say without being on the Roll. Further to this it allows you to be counted as part of the church family.
Also as it is our parish, our clergy and our church we should fairly contribute to their costs. Whilst we should not over pay for people who should no longer be counted, neither should we try to falsify our numbers purely for financial gain.
If you are part of the church family and think you should be on the Electoral Roll you need to re-apply.
If you haven't completed an application form then you certainly won't be on the list. If you want to be on the list and aren't sure then you should write or e-mail the church office to make sure.
